The following auction is horrible...

Not only is the card trimmed but it is not even close to nrmt. Not to mention that even with the tougher back, it only books for $750, not the $4000 price. When I asked the seller if it was trimmed and how he arrived at the $4000 price, this is the response I got...

"I'm sorry, did someone ask your opinion??? I just looked at what you buy, stick with your $3.00 tobacco cards & reprints and keep your thoughts to yourself, you'll find you don't look like such an IDIOT that way!!!"

You have been warned.

You found a winner, this guy is a crook. He'll get a Phil Rizzuto graded, but not a 53 Bowman Mantle or a 48 Leaf DiMaggio? This guy is selling fakes. You did a service to confront him, unfortunately people not on this board are going to be taken in by him.

yep, definately the kind of scammer on eBay to be scared of because he sells more than enough legit items that people are not going to look as closely at his items as they should, so slipping a few fakes now and then isn't going to raise suspicion. And with his PowerSeller status, eBay isn't about to do anything to him either. Even a story on network news about BSRZ's shill bidding didn't get Ebay to do anything to them except say "Bad boy. Don't do that again"

This same seller has a Southern League card, Bay, on ebay right now, recognized the large font on the description.

I won't go near this card given the seller's actions, but I'd apreciate comments on this card. It looks a little short, but about right in width. Is this a reprint?

I've attempted to scale the card by comparing to two I currently own and have measured. I tried aligning the printed black border, and seeing if I could scale the edges of the card from that. For the height, I used my Ed Lennox, which measures exactly the norm, 2.625 inches. I aligned the borders as best I could, then slid one down to match one edge, the other being short. For the width my Bender port is close, at 1.437, or 0.0005 narrow. The Bay card looks wider.

Does this method have any merit as a way to measure card dimensions? Or, is it just a geeky way to play with a photo editor?

I know Tim personally and find him to be a very stand up guy. Never have I known him to say even a cross word and will not use foul language at no time.

Very family oriented and generous to say the least, he along with a few others look for specific cards for me whenever they are out to the shows.

you would be pleasantly surprised to know that he is respected and good friends with many of the big dealers and know alot about vintage cards.

He is not one to grade every single thing he buys... cause he runs alot of 1 and 2 day auctions ,he might hit a weekend show and its up the next day for a 2 day period.

He will guarantee anything that he sells and I know it. Also, there isnt one dealer that post their stuff that doesn't try a little salemanship to sell their goods on ebay. How mant times have I seen ny many , BV 50 million, thats when you have to know your stuff and what you want to spend on an item and its worth. We have had several big money transactions ,he is not a problem guy. That's my opinion !

I know Tim as well. What Dan Koteles said sums it up.

The reason a lower priced card may be graded and a higher price card isn't is because that is how the card was bought from potentially several dealers/collectors. In fact, I sold him cards at Chantilly this past weekend.

You may or may not agree with a grade on a particular card, but to say his cards are fake is, from my experience with him, way offbase.

I know T-205s generally measure smaller with AB backs but this one is clearly much smaller and the borders and back are not standard even for American beauty...I did e-mail you and posted your reply. I looked at several of your auctions and noticed you had a trimmed Old Judge as well listed as nrmt and "possibly the best in existance (spelling mistake his)". I would not have posted here but for your nasty response to me in my e-mail. Granted, I am very protective of the T-205 issue and it worries me that someone with such a good reputaion would misrepresent such a large mistake in pricing. Hype is one thing, outright lying is another. I asked you how you arrived at a huge book sum for that card. I also asked about the trim job of a nrmt card. Not to mention the border chipping and stains...you may have a wonderful reputation (I trust Dan K.) but seriously, how does a dealer sell stuff like this. Not to mention your feedback does say you overgrade coins and cards as well. Granted, these are all my opinions and I may not be as respected as you, Tim, but people who know me do trust my judgement at least as far as T-205s.

Let me clarify something else...American Beauty cards are indeed thinner. Side to side, they are smaller to fit in the American Beauty cigarette packs. Top to bottom, they measure true most of the time. Your Chase, in my opinion is trimmed top to bottom. It is cut very short esp. if you look at the back and see how uneven the border is. I have seen and handled hundreds of American Beauty backs.

I also checked the Huggins and Scott auction where you got the card. True enough they list the card as ex-mt, not nrmt+ as you have it. It is pictured with three other American Beauty backs and a trimmed Soverign back. Funny that they measure very close top to bottom again. True, grading is subjective and you should buy the card not the grade but be honest. Also, nowhere does Huggins and Scott list the card anywhere near $4000.

Again, my opinions but I really don't like being called an idiot.

Well, Tim, I think that your credibility might go a little further if you laid off the insults when asked why you graded a card NM which you just bought for Ex-mt and then inflated the book value for the card. Also, while this isn't a spelling bee, perhaps you could spell every other word correctly and not just one in three.

Tim, your response to this chatroom just reinforces the reply you gave to Josh. Before attacking him you might want to now who you are attacking. I think in no way is anyone "hiding" in a chatroom, it is doing one of the great things it is capable of weeding out the ones we really don't need to deal with. You have some supporters in the thread but you seem to be showing your true colors.
I don't know what's so hard about telling the truth about what you sell, but hey to each his own.

Josh, Good work on this one. There plenty of good sellers to deal with.

Usually cards with "GREAT CENTERING" have a bottom border. Even "scarce" american beauty backs.
That is also commonly known among tobacco card collectors and dealers.

Once again, if any of you experts want to talk to me, not behind my back, email me your number, I will be happy to call you! I find it very interesting that you people have so much spare time to gossip about someone that you have no clue who he (or she)is!
Also, for the professor that checks for mis-spelling, are you that perfect that you have to look for something as petty as that???
One last thought and it is doubtful I ever look at this forum again, we have done nearly 7000 transactions and only have 10 neg. comments, Not bad for an un-educated hick like me that can't spell!!!!!
