All indications point towards this being one of the rarest (and coolest) 20th century issues. I'm guessing these "fans" were handed out at games as a freebie, but I'm not sure. The four pictured below was lot 2331 of the Halper collection auction by Sotheby's in 1999, which went for $13,800. As far as I know, these 4 (Matty, Cobb, Chase, Doyle) are the only known examples. Does anyone know if the checklist has been expanded? Also, does anyone on the board own one or have any experience with these in the past? If so, I'd love to hear about it. |
