All you need to know about the ball is there. We know when the game was played and who participated. What more do you need? |

I think he was looking for rarity and value? This mystery person is no one you or I know. The only issue is that he keeps sending 3mb scans done in the wrong format. That is the only reason I am posting for him and he can't do them himself. It's not a secret, his name is Dynarl ....And I will guess it's worth about $300-$500....and is quite scarce. So how did I do? |

I would say $300-500 is pretty darn close. The downside is it is late for a trophy ball, and the two opponents are not important. Looks like a game for bragging rights between two police forces. |

$300-$500 seems a little low to me. It looks to be in excellent condition and is presented well. Not many of these floating around either. I'd say $700-$800 conservatively. |

I'll agree the presentation gives it a little extra cache. |

That is a sweet baseball and I will say that it is worth more than the estimates given already. I'd guess above $1,000. I've seen ribbons and ticket stubs for this game so I think it was a little bit bigger deal than just a pickup game. |

I agree with Dan. I think it is over $1000 by a hair. If this were my baseball I would have a price tag at a show or something of $1500 expecting to be negotiated down to maybe $1200 or so. It might sit there for a long time and may never sell, but I think to the right person it is easily $1000 and probably worth closer to $1500. |

Seems like it's been a good investment. It's gone from $500 to $800 to $1000 in less than an hour! |

Hi everyone! Thanks for the info on trophy ball bought it at a local auction for $175.00. Wife's Great Granddad was a motor cycle cop in Detroit around this time and there may be a chance he played in the game. I'm not very good with computers and don't know what I am doing. Sorry for the trouble I cause but have a collection and I think there is no better place to find out about it then here. Thanks! |

No problems at all Dynarl. This forum was made for items like that trophy ball...congrats on the great find. Keep an eye out because I have seen other items associated with this contest and adding other items will only enhance the value of the trophy ball. |

They made quasi trophy baseballs and footballs into the early 1900s. Technically, they still make trophy footballs, as you will see painted up NFL game used balls that the team presented to players of the game. |

Dynarl, I will try to remember where I saw the ribbon for this game...I think maybe it was in one of the many baseball history/photo/coffee table books that I own. If I can find it I will scan it for you. |

Dan, try looking in one of the old Oregon Trail auctions. I believe there was two pinned together plus a small bat tied to it. |

Thanks Clint! I knew I had seen it somewhere. I'm pretty sure I ran across either a ticket stub or program from the game on ebay years ago because I tried at the time to research the game |

Barry, the display is not original. I display a number of items, including an Allosaurus tooth and an original Hindenburg girder piece in those same glass-and-walnut cases. They are readily available. |

David- that's interesting. I have seen trophy balls in cases that are original. If this ball was put in at a later date then that would affect the value. |

I find it interesting that there is no score recorded on the trophy ball. Is this unusual? It would be interesting if a little more information on the game, like who won, could be obtained. |

I think the ribbon is also dated for the 5th, but Oregon Trails writeup is wrong. |

Thanks Joe glad you finished your book venture. I look forward to getting it. Great pictures I put the ball in a different holder with support under it. Hope your getting settled in. |
