I received my 2005 SCD in yesterday's mail, and wanted to drop a quick thanks to Bob Lemke and staff for yet another well updated guide. I was thrilled to see the addition of several key Cuban issues, along with the first cataloging of many postcards and other assorted vintage rarities. And thanks to Bob..my "wantlist" just got more out of control... ; ) |

The Old Judges are in two parts: regular (ALL but HOF!) and HOF. The regular uisually list three poses, and of course, one or two may be Players League or Spotted Tie or Browns Champions.... The HOF typically list at least SIX poses, with a price for each. The Chicago portrait of Kelly, only one listed, is 8,500 without cap (there are actually TWO without cap from Chicago, I think) and the Hoy, any kind (only three listed) lists for 5,600.00. I'm SURE you can wait for the rest ofr the good news...Oh, Behel is still 50,000, in spite of late reports that the gentleman wasn't Jewish, after all. The HOFers are listed, only by name, in their alphabetical place among the commons, and you are referred to the HOF section. very nicely done, and very expensive...like Old Judges. |

At first they were saying the had the books on the 16th and would deliver them by the 21st, but then discovered they didn't have to books in yet, so upgraded everyone's shipping to 2-day shipping, and--at least in my case--didn't charge for it. In the mess, they forgot to send out "book has shipped" notices, when they got them in, the 21st, so your book arrived, often, the day you got the "book has shipped" notice. |

There are LOADS of "team" cards in the SCD (Kalamazoo Bats, Joseph Hall Cabinets, Sporting Life, etc.)... |

The Peck & Snyder cards were purposely omitted, along with most or all other "non-series" team-photo cards. Those that made the cut, such as T200, Kalamazoo Bats, Jos. Hall, 1951 Topps, etc., team cards are "different" in that they were issued for many teams and have a long history in the hobby and/or were issued with tobacco products. Until I get approval to split the data base into two or more volumes, this type of thing is going to happen more often. Worst case scenario is that many of the non-card items and peripheral cards will go into rotating sections -- foreign cards, pins, team-issues, etc. -- to run every two or three years. |

Please convey to the powers that be that the hobby and your readers are being done a disservice by listing pages of new crap and delisting old and valuable cards... |

the documented sales I have on the 1929 Ruth mentioned above are $289.49 in vg condition in February 2004 and over $250 (I forget the amount) later in the year. |

Peck and Snyders should have been left in. One of those shiney, smiley, pieces of crap, sets should have been left out....otherwise, it's still the best guide around and helps out tremendously. Take care.... |

Naturally, those of us on this forum want to see unlimited space devoted to the vintage section, but that's about 50 people. We have 11,000 books to sell. The vast majority of them go to people whose collecting interests are much more recently focused. They are more interested in movement in the 2004 SGA team-sets than in a checklist addition to T214 Victory. |

As for the 1929 Star Picture Stamps Exhibit, we obviously track different venues. The two price citations I have in my mark-up copy of last year's book show an EX sold for $359 and a VG-EX for $173. In my newly begun marking up of this year's catalog, I note the sale of a NM specimen at $604; much closer to the 2005 price of $600 than the $800 figure in the 2004 book. |

I love your book. I was just surprised to see prices at the levels indicated since I do not see the cards offered for sale and when they do come up, see them for different numbers. |

I admit...I am prejudiced towards vintage.....and your numbers for readers are probably skewed a little...I would say about 52 vintage readers and 12,000,000 others |
