Ah, yes, I'd say that if this price is indicative that this card has started to take off.

I was the one looking for this card. The only other one I have seen in the last few years was at the national this year and the dealer wanted $200. I felt that with patience, a better deal could be had on ebay. Boy, was I wrong.

The buyer of that card has a tendency to inflate the market place on what ever he bids. Merkle923 is Keith Olberman (remember ESPN) and obviously has the $$ to purchase whatever he wants. I remember he did this to the Topps Heritage set a few years back.

But it takes a second person to make for a high sale price. If you are the only bidder, it doesn't matter what you were willing to pay, you will get it for the minimum bid.
