what color are authentic W551's?

Hi, here is 2 auctions by big eBay sellers, with the cards looking totally different.

Ive always thought the cards with the blue caption and heavey red ink on faces etc. were reprints from the Fritschs catalog? Does anyone know if this set comes in blue or black captions like this? I have only owned a handful of cards from this set, and all were the black. I always stayed away from the blue ones thinking they were reprints. Frank

The Cobb I have is of the black ink variety. Not sure if that is any help.

The wear on the Gatnor lot certainly looks like legimate wear from over the years and round corners like that are the hardest thing to fake.

The W551's I have seen and owned have had black print captions. I instantly recognized something was strange when I saw this lot earlier with the other color of print--but like Jay has said, they sure have authentic looking wear. I have never seen the Fritsch reprints in color (their catalogue has a b+w photo for the example), so I can't comment upon the reprints caption print color.

I don't believe that the cards that I posted are W551's.

I realized when writing the ebay description for them that they were similar, but Everett Scott is not listed as being part of the W551 set in the Standard Catalog. For that reason, I didn't put the set designation in the description.
