I have a question for the T206 Experts. I have been in the business 45 years and have owned a Wagner but do not consider myself an expert at all on the backs/multipliers for T206's. I have recently bought a collection and had them graded. My question is this: Most of the Hall of Famers are Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25 which on most lists I can see, and have, this back is ranked 19-21 out of 28-41 different backs depending on the site/list. (About the top 50%) I am looking for the value of these cards in terms of multiplier vs. the most common of backs. I will give you an example : T206 Christy Mathewson Dark Cap SGC 3 Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25. (Yes this lot will be posted for sale on Net54 soon, before I list it anywhere else). Looking for value.

A query of your potential buyers MIGHT NOT be the best place to get a valuation on this one?

That is a great looking card for the grade!!! In my opinion, the SC350-460/25 prices are similar to any other piedmont or SC. Piedmont 42s sell for a premium, but the other harder Piedmont/SC, not really. There are guys who collect specific factories, so there is a chance you may get a small premium over, say, piedmont 350…but I think the premium would be minimal. Just my opinion. It’s an incredibly nice looking card. I’d price it at a premium just because it looks nicer than most other ‘3s’.

Any creases or surface wrinkles on that Matty? Still trying to reconcile why that would be a "3".

Looking at the card up close online, the grade seems accurate to me. Having said that, it’s a nice looking 3.

It’s great that you ask a question and only one of the 4 posters actually discusses it.
![]() As a longtime collector of t206s, especially rare backs, I can state with confidence that there is zero premium associated with an SC 350-460, 25 back. I agree with Sonny completely (who btw knows more about rare back pricing than anyone). The only piedmont and sweet cap backs that get a premium are both piedmont - the factory 42 and 11 for players in the piedmont 350 back (the elite 11). Otherwise, all sweet cap and piedmont variations are common and worth the same as far as backs go. Maybe, sometimes, you can get a small premium for series 150, bc it’s 1909 and earliest, and, in my experience, the sweet cap 350, 25 can be super tough, so people going for a back run may pay up a bit for that. The problem with the sweet cap 350-460, specifically, is that it is a very common back with only factory differences to distinguish. If you took away factories, I think it is most common, and, aside from the piedmont 42, I really don’t think people give a hoot about the factory number. All that said, that matty is a blazer. You should certainly get a premium for eye appeal (but not the back) |

Agree with Ryan and Sonny. no premium for SC 350-460 Fact 25. the only piedmont or SC back which gets a premium is the piedmont 350-460 fact 42.

Generally I don't think multipliers are ever really all that accurate, it's more case by case and card by card. In the case of a general T206 Common I wouldn't expect much, if any, bump over any other Piedmont or Sweet Cap. Maybe in this case, a smidge because it is Matty, and back run guys may need it, but it's a hard sell as "tougher than an El Principe" even if that might be true.

I appreciate all of the feedback and when I list this lot on the BST you will see a distinct pattern that the cards all look better than the grades. I know people always say that about there own cards but after a few of you said that I wanted to note the same is true for many of the cards in this group. I am going to post them in the next day or 2 as a lot and not individually for now. Thanks, Jeff W

Premium for the Piedmont 350-460/42 series
The remaining Piedmonts and Sweet Caps generally no premium with a few exceptions as noted in previous posts.

Like you, I'm more of a T206 neophyte than savant, so my ability to comment in a helpful fashion is extremely limited. Not that that I usually let that stop me from pontificating on subjects where my grasp is weak.
