I recently submitted some cards to CGC, and must say I am very impressed with their slab and label.
Clear, great font on the print and the clarity is just what I have been looking for. |

I recently received this back from CGC. Quick turnaround, clear cases and low grading costs.

I thought these were undergraded, they're pristine, but at least they were willing to slab them, PSA and SGC refused.

Robert:
You might already know this but the lead grader at CGC is very familiar with many of the Japanese baseball card issues and likely would be able to handle a lot of those cards which PSA and SGC would not slab. |

We recently sent them a Goudey Ruth (borders trimmed off) and Gehrig (has back fully covered by album paper) Cards that are clearly authentic by any sane definition of the word that PSA and SGC refused to slab. When we get results we'll share. Word is they have a more sensible definition of authentic so we thought we'd give it a shot.

There is literally zero doubt about these cards. I screw up occasionally looking at online images, but I'm pretty reliable with card in hand as these were. Also, not that it's 100% but the consignors of these two particular cards aren't guys who would miss a counterfeit either, nor are they the types to try and sneak one past me. The Lou may be "soakable" but not by me.

From limited anecdotal evidence, PSA has become extremely difficult about grading cards not already in its database. My 1971 music cards are listed and dated in both the Trading Card Database and the meticulous website of the leading music card collector. Not good enough for PSA, they wanted proof of the original distribution method. The individual in charge of that department has similar blocked repeated efforts by a dealer I know to grade issues for which he has excellent documentation.

This is ridiculous. How can anyone* not slab something due to trimmed borders when there is a decades-long history of doing so (and I'm not being tongue-in-cheek by covertly referencing the countless deceitfully trimmed cards in slabs around the world). What on earth would any company's* concern be with authenticating a non-maliciously trimmed card? All they would be stating is that the card is authentic. Big deal.
I don't know how all of you guys put up with all of this from anyone*. Glad I don't. *Generic statements, not directed at any company in particular. Last edited by BillyCoxDodgers3B; 09-29-2024 at 02:17 PM. |
