The 1895 Mayo's (N300) set includes most of the best players of the era and, notably, Kid Nichols's first card as a major leaguer. In it he is shown wearing his 1889 minor league team (Omaha) striped jersey, the same jersey he wears in his 1889 N172, edited to replace "Omaha" with "Boston." This is hardly the only time such a thing has happened on a baseball card, but it appears that all other cards in the set use portraits taken in the 1890s. Why would Nichols, who had literally been the single best baseball player in the world over the previous 5 years, be the one player they wouldn't have a contemporary photo of?
