“A singer of these ageless times
With kitchen prose and gutter rhymes” Songs from the Wood. Sort of an onomatopoeia phrase if you are familiar with the theme and songs from the album… Tull has some fantastic lyrics. Several of them clever, cerebral , symbolic and literate. I’m going to post a few more examples of what I think are great lyrics. I encourage you to do the same. Certainly does not have to be Jethro Tull , I’m just listening to them tonight ![]()

From “Teacher”
No sense in sitting there hating everyone No man's an island and his castle isn't home The nest is full of nothing when the bird has flown"

I'll play. Have always loved "Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day," and the symbolism contained in the last verse is really great...
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense? Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Maybe not very clever, cerebral , symbolic or literate, but I always used "Perhaps you ate them thinking they were a carrot?" to my kids when they were griping about not being able to find something.

…Who lost his spectacles!
Taylor that’s great! I introduced my kids to that phrase you mentioned when they were small tykes. I’m going to mention it to my son next time I see him and test his memory! lol, definitely not the most poetic lyrics, but fun!
