Here are a few pages from the American Card Catalog, reprinted from the 1960 version (a few times).
U.S. Early Candy and Gum cards seemed to be the rage back in 1960 with a "large adult following who avidly snap up anything available at what would ordinarily seem high prices for this type of card." Now, in 2018, it seems they have cooled off quite a bit for all except the top tier cards. There was a day, not that many years ago (12-15?), that this type of error E92 Dockman McGraw (below) would have brought good money relatively speaking. It was added to the collection last week for a fraction of what it would have been back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, from our BST section and from one of the other mods, no less. Will they ever go back up in value, who knows? Currently they are neat to collect and won't break the bank. This McGraw looks to be missing a red pass and was $125 delivered. It's hard to beat that kind of value in pre-war, to me. ![]()
