Is it safe to mail off your cards to grading services (PSA, Beckett)? What is the risk, other than that involving US Post Office, which is a story in itself.

As safe as mailing anything else, just make sure they are insured. There is a risk as stuff does happen but it is rare.

Wait until after the holidays. What usually takes under five minutes took over an hour yesterday. I'm far from a rookie but that was a rookie mistake.
