One of the best to ever lace up a pair of skates is gone. Condolences to the Howe family. "Elbows" played in a different era than Gretzky so I've always thought him to be the better of the two.

Gretzky was great, but Gordie was the greatest. For 15 years, he was the best player in the most competitive era of the world's toughest team sport -- the ultimate combination of sublime physical skills, brute strength and cold-blooded tenacity. The opposition genuinely feared him. Not to take anything away from Gretzky, but his inflated numbers were achieved during the game's most diluted era and he spent the bulk of his career surrounded by bodyguards, allowing him to work his magic unmolested. For my money, the top 10 all-time are as follows: Howe; Bobby Orr; Gretzky; Mario Lemieux; Patrick Roy; Maurice Richard; Jean Beliveau; Terry Sawchuk; Bobby Hull; Larry Robinson.

No, it is a JD McCarthy PC or mail reply card. Same base photo, I think. The Beehive image is also found on the 'Exhibit' card issued in Canada, which leads me to believe they bootlegged the Beehive to create it:
![]() Same image is also his 1951 Parkhurst. What year is the Beehive?
