Don't know why they don't get more love. I realize they were cut in many cases 70 years ago, and cutting isn't always great, but love the W517 set and other random strip cards I have. These are cards that look they lived a life, suffered a few injuries along the way, and weren't just shoved in a box or a vault somewhere. They have character, and there are a hell of a lot of hall of famers.
I'd title this "Show us Your Strippers!" but likely that would go downhill in a real hurry. |

Nice slight print offset on the Frank Frisch in previous post.
This is my only strip card a Tris Speaker with a very nice print offset. ![]() |

I'd guess that their unpopularity largely has to do with their low production values. Lots of strip sets were very cheaply made, and some of them are simply ugly. W517 is a notable exception, and isn't really like most of the strip sets. If it's unpopular that fact might have to do with its size, 3x4 is hard to display with the rest of a collection. (If you collect them raw, for example, you can't put them into a binder.)
That said, not everybody is upset at their unpopularity. They do make some really inner-circle hall of famers available to collectors on a tight budget. I've got Grove and Alexander strip cards that would have probably been beyond my price range in a more ordinary set. And I recently saw a W516 Cobb sell for $60 on eBay; granted in truly terrible condition ('poor' didn't quite do it justice), but still, somebody got a Cobb for sixty bucks. |

Averill card is nice. I saw on a website that his Exhibits card from the PCL is one of the most sought out Exhibits. See it on eBay once in a while but is usually around $900.
This is a very cool strip item. Almost pulled the trigger a few times: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PSA-1926-W51...16.m2516.l5255 |

I love my complete set of W515-2 "The Little Wonder Picture Series" ...which are MUCH rarer than their W515-1 counterpart. And the number of HOFers in the set is staggering!

I love the rainbow of subjects that are in strips.
To be honest, I have far more nonsport cards than players. The actors and famous celebrities are a slice of history. I have been on the hunt for Arbuckle lately, but have some great ones like houdini, Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd.

Ron, did you have that frame made yourself? I have a W573 strip (formerly of the prestigious Luckey collection) that I'd like to display at some point. Do you know how the cards were mounted in the frame?
