Here are my latest workings of 1972 'In Action' cards. I'll end up putting together as many of the 'ignored' HOF'ers as I can. First off, I'm going with these three guys, with an additional Nolan Ryan thrown in, because let's face it, most people love him…

Those are great pics, Darren. Hard to believe that was 50 years ago. Bench was such a great catcher, and your cards show that.

I love those reimagined 1972s! As far as I'm concerned, the 72s are one of the finest sets ever, and certainly the best set of the 1970s. I particularly like the Nolan Ryan cards with the little "a" on his cap — that's what he wore that one and only year. I watched him pitch a lot for the Halos that year, including his first spring training start. When he tossed a pitch over Willie McCovey's head early in the game, I was certain he was going to be a bust.
I'd like to see some updated '72s of two other guys the Angels traded for that year — Vada Pinson and Leo Cardenas. The artwork on their original cards is kind of lame. Maybe I'll try my hand at this ... Last edited by Chris Counts; 06-04-2021 at 07:49 AM. |

Ran across an absolutely joyous photograph of Brooks Robinson and Mark Belanger, so I threw together yet another pair of new Brooksies (especially for our fellow member who loves him the most)...

And how about a celebratory reimagining of...
REG-GIE!!! REG-GIE!!! REG-GIE!!! REG-GIE!!! 1972reggiejackson04.jpg1972reggiejackson01.jpg 1972reggiejackson08.jpg1972reggiejackson07.jpg 1972reggiejackson05.jpg1972reggiejackson11.jpg 1972reggiejackson06.jpg1972reggiejackson02.jpg Although this one doesn't fit into the general timeframe of being a shot that could've actually appeared on a 1972 card, I had to include it anyway, because that is one cool photograph!! 1972reggiejackson09.jpg

I've never messed around with card creation myself, but this thread is fantastic. I love the 72 In Action designs but the photos Topps used in the real were set a bit... lackluster. Nice to see the improvements you all have made

Great cards. But why is Berra wearing shin guards while he appears to be in the on deck circle?

Two outs and no faith in whomever was batting before him, I assume.

And a few more sluggers and hurlers (including a pair already posted long ago, but they fit the theme, so what the hey) to add to the mix...

Great cards. What's with the look on that last one? Was that after a k?
Killer could hit the ball a loooooong way. 573 HRs was a LOT at one time, doesn't seem that big a deal anymore. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk Last edited by Gorditadogg; 01-25-2023 at 09:00 PM. |

Ran across this pic online and (although the proportions don't align all that well with the card's active image area*) thought it was too magnificent to pass up...
1972robertoclemente20.jpg *But let's be honest, it does fit in well with all of the other willy-nilly photographs Topps used that year.
