AUTOGRAPHED 1931 METROPOLITAN STUDIOS ST LOUIS CARDINALS
Offered is an elusive and scarcely seen group of autographed 1932 Metropolitan Studios St. Louis release. Issued on heavy paper stock the cards measure 6 1/4 x 9 1/2 and offer three different types of accreditation in the lower corners those being Metopolitan Studios , Sid Whiting St. Louis or simply no credit at all. Overall in outstanding condition with some having only minor glue or paper residue on reverse from having been preserved in the original collectors scrapbook. These were originally sold as part of a partial set and come with a copy of a blanket auction coa from psa and jsa and an unconditional guarantee of authenticity from Jim Stinson Sports. Each is signed nicely in period era fountain pen.
100) JIM LINDSEY Generally considered one of the TOUGHEST autographs of all 1920's through 30's players and certainly the toughest autograph to find from the highly collectible 1934 Cardinals "Gas House Gang" World Champion team. Have only offered two Lindsey autographs over the years and this is the first time I have ever seen him on a signed photo and a beauty at that ! Lindsey played for the 1922, 1924 Indians, 1929-33 Cardinals, 1934 Reds & Cardinals, 1937 Brooklyn. EXTREMELY RARE ! He died in 1963. $950.00
101) PEPPER MARTIN few players were better associated with the rough and tumble style of play of the "Gas House Gang" Than Pepper Martin. He virtually single handedly won the 1931 World Championship for the Cardinals as the catalyst in their upset victory of the Athletics. He played for the Cardinals 1928, 1930-40 & 1944 he died in 1965. $450.00
102) CLYDE "BUZZY" WARES Played for the 1913-14 Browns he is best remembered as a coach for Five World Champion Cardinals teams including 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946 Signed on the partially shaded area of the card/photo he died in 1964. $350.00
103) MIGUEL ANGEL "MIKE" GONZALEZ a fantastic image signed on the light portion. Cuban catcher, coach and interim managerduring first half of the 20th century along with Dolph Luque was one of the first Cuban born players to have a long career in the major leagues. A tough autograph especially on anything substantial as he returned to Cuba after his playing career where he died in 1977. $450.00
104) GEORGE WATKINS Played for the World Champion 1931 Cardinals his career spanned 1930-33 Cardinals, 1934 Giants, 1935-36 Phillies and 1936 Dodgers he died in 1970. $250.00
105) JIMMIE WILSON Member of the first All Star Team in 1933 his career as a player spanned 1923-40 for the Phillies, Cardinals, Reds and 1934-44 For the Phillies and Cubs he died in 1947. $350.00
106) ALLYN STOUT Pitcher for the 1931-33 Cardinals, 1933-34 Reds, 1935 Giants and 1943 Braves he died in 1974. $250.00
107) GABBY STREET Signed with the less familar formal name "Chas Street" A catcher for numerous teams including the Washington Senators where he was considered Walter Johnson's favorite catcher. Was also an early member of the 1912 Highlanders/Yankees. He was a manager for the 1929-33 Cardinals and 1938 Browns. He died in 1951. $350.00
108) WALTER ROETTGER Played from 1927-35 for the Cardinals, Reds, Pirates, Giants most notably the World Champion 1931 Cardinals where he got the 1st hit of the World Series off of Lefty Grove and scored the first run. He was only 49 years old when he commited suicide with a razor in 1951. $350.00
109) WILD BILL HALLAHAN Pitcher on both the 1931 & 1934 Cardinals World Championship teams. Starting pitcher in first All Star game in 1933 and surrendered home run to Babe Ruth. Died-1981. $250.00
110) JAKE FLOWERS Died-1962 $250.00
111) TONY KAUFMANN Died-1982 $150.00
112) FLINT RHEM Pitcher for both the 1931 and 1934 World Champion Cardinals teams. Died-1969 $250.00
