A while back, I picked up this John Romonosky card because you could not see his name on the back of the card. So I picked it up as an error card. However, when I put the card in my collection, I realized it has a grey back and my correct copy has a tan back. I then checked the internet, shows, etc.. to find another grey back example of this card. I can't find another. This is NOT a Topps Venezuelan card, I have ruled that out. Is there another grey back example of this card.. or is that part of the error?
I have enclosed a tan back example from my collection as a comparison. Many thanks for any help in figuring this out... |

Just curious, how did you rule it out as definitely not being a Topps Venezuelan? Is the front of the card glossy rather than dull?

Minus the interesting factory print defect on back, this 60 Topps Venezuelan PSA card (from ebay) has a nearly identical back.

It is tough to tell, the thing that is throwing me is that the error card is in such nice condition. The Topps Venezuelan cards I have seen are all in crappy condition...

Most 1959 and 1960 Topps Venezuelan Topps cards are offgrade, but there are some in nice condition.

Venezuelan cards in every grade from poor to mint, they are just very rarely found in awesome shape but it does happen from time to time. I do believe, based on the scan, that is a venezuelan but I could be wrong.

Saved--in your scan the name is there but looks to also be partially missing, right ?

Al, it does look as through parts of the name are missing...I could not tell if it was surface wear or a factory print defect. On Tom's example, it was much more obvious that the name was missing due to some sort of over inking during the printing process...much tougher to tell what the cause of the name appearing to have missing letters in the image I posted.
Here is a link to it's listing(you can enlarge the image better)....the #87's image is linked into the wrong items listing though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Topps-V...item43bfd098ce |
