Hello,
This is my first post here and I was hoping someone can help me figure out what it is that I have. I received a few items from the Grandfather recently and one of them is what appears to be a pendant from a necklace or key chain. On one side it says "World's Series Chicago" with the Cubs logo in the middle and the year 1935 under that. The other side says "World's Series Detroit" with the Tigers logo in the middle and the year 1935 under that. I have attached a couple of pictures, any guidance on exactly what this is would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Given it is holed, I am sure it was a charm to be worn on a necklace or bracelet. Given it is two- sided (both teams), it was most likely not attached as a charm or dangle to a pinback button. A World Series pinback button typically supports one team or the other, not both. It has an interesting design feature in that the city is listed by name but the team is represented by an image of a bear and tiger. I also find it intriguing that throughout the history of MLB baseball there appears to be no agreement whether it is the "World" or "World's" Series. Yours references the latter. I have a similar round metal medallion that lists both team names and the year, but it is not as artfully crafted as yours. Hope this helps.

I forgot to add that when it was made the bear and tiger images had high relief (they were the thickest part of the charm). Over the many years of use, possibly on a key chain, the animal images became more worn than the rest of the charm.

"World's" was used in 1935, became "World" a few years later.
