Here is a paraphrased set of instructions I use.

The process involved taking a spray bottle filled with water to saturate the pennant. After wet, take another spray bottle with bleach and spray on the fabric. Let it stand for a few minutes and then take the water sprayer and thoroughly spray until water has washed out the bleach. I usually dry by having a towel on the floor and another on top and dap the pennant. Then air dry. After it’s dry you can lightly iron the back of the pennant quickly and not too high of a setting as not to melt any graphics. Remember to tape the spine and tassels with multiple layers and don’t spray bleach close to the spine to to avoid bleeding.

Others may have slightly different processes.

I asked similar question back in March. Rob was helpful enough to repost the instructions on post #4384 with photos.

There's also been a few people on the boards who are a fan of Retro Clean to wash pennants without bleaching them. I tried Retro Clean recently and it did a pretty good job.

Retro Clean works especially good on white cloth Trench and ASCO pennants. They seemingly don’t have inks that run. I’ve had some fantastic results with some pennants I bought early in my collecting days that got stashed away. But I had a cheaper knock off Phillies pennant that ran.

Now the spine and tassels will run and so that’s where some diluted bleach is needed to clean that up. It helps to run a dowel through the spine.

I even had a blue Phillies blue Jay pennant that I got cheap because it was filthy, looked like it was used as an oil rag. For the heck of it I tried RC and the results were great.

Also a great pickup, Marc! I’ve not seen that particular one!

Random question - anybody thinking about going to Nationals this year? I haven’t decided if I’m going, and I’ve never been, but if you’re thinking about going let me know!

Not me, I’m strictly an Atlantic City guy, missed out on last year. But if you go, be sure to take some pics if you come across anything nice!

Default Tinker to Evers to Chance

1913 was the first year the New York American League Baseball Team was known as the Yankees, prior to this season they were the Highlanders.

Future HOFer Frank Chance was the new manager, thus the first ever "Yankees" manager, little known fact.

May 17, 1913 -- Frank Chance Day at Comiskey Park (Yankees at White Sox)

http://www.connectingthewindycity.co...ce-day-at.html

I can't find another one online or at any auction house (REA, Heritage, Huggins, Goldin, LOTG, SCP, etc.). If you know of another example please let me know.

It appears so, and they feel like the same material as the pennant

I don't think those are strings. Tassels look like that if they've been tied in a knot for many years.

They definitely are felt and were always that width from what I can see.

Has anybody seen union labels on pennants before? I found this article in union labels for vintage clothing which seems somewhat related .I know this isn’t a sports flag, but curious.

Interesting, Erik! I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that no one here has a baseball pennant with a union label...

I wonder if this mark conveys that the pennant was manufactured using union labor; or, that it was sold by a vendor that was part of this union? I suspect the latter....

I.J.W.U. = Int'l Jewelry Workers Union.

I found a bunch of vintage pins and metal trinkets bearing this mark ... so, evidently some unknown novelty company once employed I.J.W.U. labor to make a number of products that included felt souvenir pennants.

I've seen a number of Disneyland felt pennants from 1955 through the 1970s, and I can't recall one bearing this mark.

I saw a reference or two online to the Jewelry Union, but didn’t have any luck finding much on it. Appreciate the input!

Hi Marc, welcome … nice batch. I think Cardinals, Pirates, Phillies are each in the $40-75 range. (Thinking in terms of eBay auctions.) The Braves with player names, Cubs, and Reds (my favorite) would be higher maybe even close to $150-200 each at the right time.

I agree with Greg's estimates... spot on. The Reds is a rare version, and the Cubs is semi-rare. The Braves is pretty common, but is a championship pennant with players' names.

The other three are nice pennants, but are readily available. Great pickups!

Thank you! I thought the braves one was odd, being that they did not win the World Series that year. Appreciate you guys taking the time to look at them.

The Braves pennant is a ‘phantom’ pennant because they didn’t win the World Series that year, but it isn’t as rare as one would think. It’s still cool as hell!

Looks like that Millers pennant made its way to the right home to be with its family

This 49ers just arrived today. Very tough color combo.

That’s from that lot of 12, from about a month ago? Did the winner of the lot ebay it or did you somehow track him down?

I’ve never seen the American League version. I’ve had hat pennant twice over the years, but I haven’t even seen one of those in years. That’s in nice shape too. Nice pennant.

Thanks, Jason. I’ve never seen the AL version either but figured if one exists, this group would know

Very cool pennant, Erik!

I cheaped out on a JR NY Giants pennant and I’m kicking myself.

I’m kind of conflicted.

On one hand, I’ve got plenty of stuff and any new pennant I get gets ironed, put in a sleeve and stashed away.

On the other hand, I rarely see Giants pennants I “need.”

Well... looks like I outbid Rob for this one. I love the look of the batter. Wish it wasn't 3/4 size, but that seems to the only size for many of these NY Giants pennants.

Here is a WGN of mine that I’ve not seen another version of. Is there a ‘Day-Glo’ version?
