I wasn't really ever planning on going after this set, but I came across a bargain that was too good to pass on. Now that I have this one out of the way, I figure the rest will be a little more easily attainable.

I think I'd do the same with regards to that card and set. Always liked it but never pursued it, mainly due to that card. http://www.sportscollectorsdigest.com/classiccard5/ Good luck with your set. ![]()

My favorite set of all time! What a sharp copy of #68 that is. I landed a beater this year to complete my set and was thrilled. Good luck with your journey!

Thanks guys, the set is growing on me quite a bit. While there are some cards that I could do without (hunting, fishing, the weird shift card) there are some of the best poses of the Post War era in the set. Doesn't get much better than #63 "Ted's All Star Record".

I always thought this was an iconic Topps Baseball card.
Anytime I would pass a glass case at a Baseball card show, all the way back to when I was a kid, this card always caught my eye. Don't know why it has taken me 57 years to own one.

Nice Robinson! With that pose and the spring training crowd in the background it almost has an "in action" feel to it.

I was thinking that this picture was taken in Seals Stadium in SF where the Giants played their 1st 2 seasons before moving to Candlestick in 1960. Many of the Giant player's, as well as some other NLers, cards have Seals Stadium in the background on their 59-60 Topps issues. Last edited by savedfrommyspokes; 12-15-2016 at 07:14 AM. |

Upgrading cards I already have is a slippery slope I try to avoid, but the color on this Banks really called my name. Will hope it wasn't just goofy scanner settings.

That is some great, although somewhat confusing (for me) information. I always thought cream and gray backs were one of the same, just different names people, over the years used to describe them. Reading this, and with all the cards I own, I do wish I had a copy or 2 to share/be a part of this unique, hard to obtain subset if you will.

Picked up these educational cards from 1979 to get the Lou Brock card. If you can't read the writing, it profiles Gene Richards, Omar Moreno and Caesar Cedeno as the most likely active players to make a run at the stolen base record. On the back, kids were supposed to test their reading comprehension by answering the quiz questions on the back.

I'd never seen the back of a 1958 Series 6 team card before. This is pretty cool how Topps welcomes in Stan the Man!

What's the story behind that? Why wasn't Musial in the 56 and 57 Topps sets?

I have heard that there were contract disputes between Topps and Bowman for many players and have also heard that certain players just simply were not available when it was time to sign the contract. I have never seen a Bowman contract, but the Topps contracts are pretty cool companion pieces. I can only imagine the Bowman issues of Aaron, Musial, Jackie, and soooo many others!

The Musial was a Heritage win from their last major auction. It's an upgrade to my PSA 5 that I will put up on the BST soon. The Musial is definitely one of the great postwar cards, to be sure. Thanks for the kind comments!

Love that kind of stuff. And, that is a great selection of players and cards on that grouping. The '76 Brock is one of those cards that represent the set and the era to me.

A late Christmas gift to myself. Maybe an EX card, bright colors and gloss, nice centering. I had one of these back in the 1980's as a kid when it was maybe a $25 card, but traded it away. Always loved Roberto's batting pose on this, in contrast to the many other portrait shots that were used on '58 Topps.
