Thought my original response was so positively word-perfect that I would just repost it (laziness had absolutely no hand in the decision making process...wink wink, nudge nudge).

Brian

I am a merchandizing guru at an industrial hardware store that sells just about every wacky widget and thingamabob there is, where guys literally spend hours spelunking down aisles with their jaws open as if they had just seen their parents procreating (spelunking is not quite the appropiate word, as the store is well lit, and frisky elderly folk are discretely directed to the nether regions of the stockroom). The English Lit/Creative Writing major may have helped me out in that last sentence, but it has had no real bearing on my career path. We do, however, sell bearings.

Not the most lucrative of jobs, but thanks to the careless handling of baseball cards by the youth of the first few decades of the last century, I can still afford this hobby (when I can keep my fascination with paper fiberboard cups under control).

...edited to indicate a more environmentally and politically correct obsession. And styrofoam is just so toxic and awful smelling when it burns.

Third shift pharmacist for the evil mail order giant Medco Health Systems. $200/week gets kicked into a checking account just for me and my beer and gas and eBay. Right now I am doing more selling than buying which is supporting the habit, trying to clear out the basement so the little person coming in May has a place to play with it's toys.

I work in a canning factory for sardines. I am the last person on the assembly line and my responsibility is to close the fish’s eyes before the cans are sealed. Very rewarding but my friends tell me I smell funny.
In my spare time I also build beautiful golf courses in the southern California desert

An auditor actually, heading up a 120 person department of a major bank holding company, with 5 years to go for the perfect retirement. But, some guys from Cleveland bought the bank and forced me, and 2,000 of my best friends into early retirement, or just plain jobless folks. That is why I hate the Cleveland Indians.

So I moved to Texas where I am now doing consulting work in regulatory compliance, internal audit, security and any other questions I can answer with a quick google search.

I also have a part time card business on ebay.

I'm a journalist. Work as a copy editor/designer at Newsday on Long Island in New York. Do some occasional writing for the paper -- mostly entertainment stuff. Got to interview Stan Lee once, right before "Spider-Man" the movie came out, which was pretty cool. (I'm also somewhat of a comic book geek.)

Also have written a couple of as-yet-unpublished novels. Hoping some day to land the big book/movie deal so I'll have endless cash flow to buy those cards that now I can only dream about.

Main Job: Husband, father (3 yrs old) and step father (16, 15 yrs old)

$econdary Job: I worked for a small Computer Networking consulting company named Callisma which was bought by SBC. I still do the same kind of work which is basically helping people with the operational management of complex voice and data networks.

Unfortunately, until my wife (sophmore Regis College) and two stepchildren make it through college very little of my income goes to cards. Fortuneately I bought a lot of cards in the 70 (paper route) and 90's (LAN Administrator). Kinda skipped the 80's.

I'm in 12th year as a state court judge. Before that, I picked up coke bottles as a kid for the deposit (4 cents!), piling them up in my bicycle basket on Saturday mornings, retrieving them from along the roads. Then I'd peddle to the store, collect the deposit, and convert it to 1964 Topps cards... Then do it again the following year. Bought some "old" Bowman cards when I was a DJ in college days... Bought some more old cards (Old Judges, T206s, and Harpers woodcuts and the like, including a T200 premium) with a few dollars when I practiced law.... I figure some of the social security checks will help me complete Sky Birds and Diamond Stars... I hope so, anyway.

Engineer in the Automotive Industry. I have been working for Chrysler the last 10 years with the last 3 as a Powertrain Engineer on the Hemi engine program. My group is responsible for defining required hardware to not only keep the Hemi competitive but dominate the competition. In doing so, I spend a lot of time around both dyno & vehicle test properties. We test and develop hardware that won't see the customer for several years.

I manage a veterinary office.....actually, Keith, I could use another veterinarian if you feel like moving to San Jose.

Robert A, I also play old-time fiddle music (among other things). I did a CD about 8 years ago but it was working with a tenor guitar. However, it did feature Byron Berline (for those of you who care) on several cuts.

David:

I know that some frivilous lawsuits are gumming up the new drug R&D pipelines...

but from everything that has come out in the testimony from the Vioxx trials to date, Merck deserves everything they have coming to them on this one.

A company memo to their sales reps about how to play "Dodgeball" with doctors in order to avoid answering questions about the side effects of Vioxx and the adverse results of their own study??

Their OWN former employees testifying against them and saying that they were "blackballed" when they tried to speak out against the dangers??

Definitely NOT something I want to hear about as a consumer if I was taking ANY drug!

And definitely NOT frivilous.

Where is the outrage at the Federal Drug Agency who
tested this drug for many years and approved it ?
Perhaps, the lawyers cannot sue a Federal agency and
get big bucks ?

And, why aren't the lawyers going after very similar
type drugs such as Celebrex, etc. ? All these drugs
have the same side-effects as Vioxx.

My dear niece (PHD) works in the research dept. at
Merck, so I do have a pretty good insight into this
situation. And, I am sure I will be accused of not
having an objective viewpoint on this matter.
