I'll argue that point. He said the auction ended at 9:00 PM, not 9:00:00. So if it's 9:00:59, it's still 9:00. The only time after 9:00 is 9:01 and it obviously isn't that.

Then he would have said the auction ends at 8:59. 9:00 is no good. You aren't following.

Actually when clarifying who the winners were, the seller said the auction ended at 9:01. I accept that, as it's clearly what his intent was. However my view is that it's clear as day that 9:00:01 is AFTER 9:00pm, so the auction did not in fact end at 9:00pm, it ended at 9:01pm. All that matters is who won, which was not me, so not sure why you all aren't able to drop it when, oh good grief, you think a stranger on the internet is wrong about something

And thanks to the kind seller who understood my confusion and has reached out to let me know he'll be adding the additional clarification to avoid knuckleheads like me getting confused on the ending times, a true gentleman, and I look forward to bidding on his future auctions!

In my view, saying something ends at 9:00pm, means the second the clock strikes 9:00 it's over, not one second past. I can see your point, I simply think it's factually incorrect and not how deadlines work anywhere else on the internet, but apparently it is how they work here. The norm is a one minute grace period. I get it. I will keep that in mind for future auctions.

That's not how deadlines work. Imagine a student in an online course. The teacher says an assignment is due promptly at 9:00pm. Sets up an online submission portal for that submission. If a student attempts to submit after the clock strikes 9 but before the clock strikes 9:01, the student will be sorely disappointed when the assignment is rejected as late.

I did an auction in here last week. This is how I posted the ending time. " The bidding will end at 10:00 pm on Sunday Septenber 17th. Any bid must be placed before the clock strikes 10:00, 10:00 or later will not count."

Everyone...this is Net54 auctions, not Ebay where seconds are identified and accounted for. It has been standard on here, because of the time stamps only identifying the time by minutes, that an auction that is stated to end, for example 8pm EST, the bidder with the highest bid wins, as long as the bid has a 8:00 pm or earlier time stamp. In case of ties, the earliest bid is the winner.

If a seller wants to make auction not include any bids that have a 8:00 pm time stamp, they include a statement like jfkheat used for his auction. Otherwise, how clydepepper identified things in his auction listing is in effect. End of story. Choose another auction venue for your bids if this limitation bothers you.

I fully respect that as the end of story. My only point was that if the time stamp says 8:00pm, it's actually AFTER 8:00pm that the post was made. That's all I was saying, and I got a bit irritated at being told that that simple fact of reality and nature and the science of how clocks work was in fact incorrect. Now go trim those sideburns!!!!

And in defense of my consistent position all throughout, if you read my first post I simply said, and I quote "Seems to me I was the high bidder on #5 as of 9:00:00 but up to owner whether clock stops at 9 or 9:01". So at no point was I claiming to have won, or to be the sole bidder with an understanding of the bidding norms. I actually admitted in that very first post not to be aware of the norms on this site, and deferred to others. Anyone who would care to have read what I actually wrote would have seen that from the jump.

No. Actually, I stated that the auction would end at 9:00, 9:01 would be too late.

Going forward, to further clarify things, I will state that any bid time-stamped 9:00 would be accepted; those time-stamped as 9:01 would not.

I just don't know how I can be clearer than that.

My mistake, it appears I was quoting you quoting someone else who wrote "all the bids are time stamped. The auction ended at 9:01.", I had mistaken that as your post, but it was someone else's. That's my mistake. I had assumed only you would be making a list of the winners in that manner. The last sentence you are adding is crystal clear, I appreciate that.

I'm just an insane stickler for grammar and precision, and to say something ends at 9:00 and then 9:01 is too late, does not actually imply a bid at 9:00:01 would be accepted. You could very well have said 11:37 is too late, and it doesn't counter the first part of that statement. Sorry folks, again, I don't know why you all can't drop it. It's done. It's over.

The LAST word on all of this is to share what will be stated in my next auction:

As usual, please ask any questions before bidding.

(then normal item details etc.)

Auction ends Sunday, 10/1 @ 9:00PM ET; 9:01PM ET is too late…in other words, any bid time-stamped 9:00 would be accepted; any bids time-stamped as 9:01 would not.

If multiple bids are time-stamped at 9:00, and they are the same amount, the first one listed in the thread would be the winner.

However, if multiple bids are time-stamped at 9:00 and one is a higher amount, that bid wins.

Please also understand that you have to convert the time-stamp to your time-zone- for example, when an auction ends at 9:00PM ET, the time-stamp I see is 7:00 as I am in the Eastern Time Zone.

This should cover everything...if not, check the first statement...thanks...this has been fun...
