Was glad I struck out in Leland's as it turns out, it freed me up for this one. Although from a distance or with a poor cell phone, the embroidery looking like "1968", up close it is clearly 1969. In addition, the Wilson tagging for 1968 is much different than 1969. The 1968 Reds road jerseys (also Wilson products) feature red over white tackle twill for ALL numbering and lettering, front and back.

Scott,
Thanks. I think so as well. In response to a couple of emails, here are side by side shots showing the differences between the 1968 and 1969 Reds road uniforms. Dave Grob |

Very nice Dave! Is the patch original to the jersey?

Clint,
The NOB has been restored and I just had the patch restored. I have a pretty good selection of the 1969 Anniversary patches, so I found one that looks great and shows commensurate use and wear to the jersey. Dave |

Pretty tough to find a 69 jersey with original patch. Great classic jersey and thanks for sharing the pics. Clint

I recently picked up a tough ticket to Johnny Vander Meer's 1st ML career start on May 19, 1937, which also happened to be the 1st night game for the Reds in 1937.
As many of you perhaps know, the Cincinnati Reds became the first ML team to play baseball under the lights in 1935. Prior to this game, rookie Vander Meer only had been used as a pinch hitter and in relief since his ML debut in late April 1937. 21 year-old Vandy went the full 9 innings, but took the tough luck loss 3-1. Vander Meer deserved better, pitching effectively and striking out a season high 11 Boston batters, not allowing an earned run in the game. As an aside, Vandy also picked up his 1st career hit in his first AB in the majors. I wish I had an actual photo from this game... Last edited by Scott Garner; 06-25-2016 at 05:02 AM. |

Picked up these early RPPCs of Jack Johnson and Jess Willard. They fought for the Heavyweight title in 1915 in Havana, Cuba, so I believe these were produced around that time by a studio in Panama. Both appear to be signed on the reverse by Jess Willard and there is an interesting reference to Kid Norfolk who was a famous Lt Heavyweight boxer of that era. Is the signature on the front of the Johnson RPPC a possible authentic Johnson autograph?

Great shirt Dave! I love it. And another nice example of showing color in a black and white world.
Scott - Congratulations on picking up the ticket to Vandy's first start. I appreciate how you share the history behind the item. |

I know that Cooperstown has the jersey worn by Costner, but this is just such a classic visual from one my all time favorite movies. I have hundreds of jerseys in my collection, Hall of Famer flannels, gamers from childhood idols, but this one just brings me a special kind of joy.
If I had this when we were doing the book, I would have insisted on a feature essay for Crash Davis. Dave Grob |

Those are great. Are any particularly rare? The Agee, maybe?
You should put them in the Anybody collect pins? thread....it could use a revival. ![]()

I think it was "stolen" or " he had to sell becAuse his job might be outsourced" or someone died or someone is pregnant which somehow gives him the ability to reneg on anything he sees fit. BUT if you see it on eBay, it will be one that was found on the curb or his job has been once again secured. Oh.. and he is sorry and it won't happen again.. Thing of the past.
Non of the said stories above are true of course.. It amazes me the lack of self awareness one can have. Scary that one can actually believe that they are invisible if they are wearing sunglasses. There is only one Joey Farino.. One great big pimple on the hobby that keeps coming back after it pops over.. And over.. And over again.
