It was about 1982 or 83. A near mint Winfield was the hot card and the three 206's were vg. I remember thinking I got shorted a little. Oh, how times have changed...

I'm guessing by the early '90's when that Winfield hit about $250-$300, you really felt that.. You definitely made out in the long run though!

36. I got my first T206 at about 13, started truly collecting them at 22. Aside from an occasional upgrade now, I stopped about a year ago and think I'm done.

Default Collector age!

At 71 I am the old fart I guess! It is great seeing so many of you "youngsters" (50 and under) into collecting. I have one young man...now about 15...who started buying T206s at about age 8 or 9. He came into a show in Raleigh with his Dad and after we talked 20 or 30 minutes about collecting he purchased, from me, two T206s. He is now 14 and six foot three and still come to almost every one of my shows in that area. Although I would not consider him an expert he is very knowledgeable and loves Pre-WWII cards.

Bought my first T206 in 1997 at the not-quite-ripe age of 24.

49.....first T206 when about 10 but not another one till 1990's......

internet is key. Didn't exist when I was young and I had no good way(in Miami, Florida) of getting to prewar cards. Card shop far away and stuff too expensive for me...so many roadblocks.....internet has opened a way I didn't have....

Barry, good to hear.

Wazoo, envy you starting at that age. You have foresight I did not have.

Took a page from Jack Benny's book and decided to remain perpetually 39 a few years ago. Started collecting T206's when I was 7. Took a long hiatus starting my freshman year in high school that lasted into my early 30's.

77 this month. Started collecting in 1976. First card was a Vic Willis, throwing. He was a Great Uncle on my mother's side.

I'm 41, and am fairly new (a bit more than one year) to collecting T206 cards.

The OP asked for a guess as to what the average age of T206 collectors would be. My initial thought was 55 years old. Apparently, the crowd is a bit younger.

Best Regards,

Eric

Interesting, similar to the results on the N172 Old Judge thread in terms of vote count and distribution. If this thread had an actual poll I suspect there would have been many more T206 votes cast.

My daughter Melody was 5 when the monster bit her. She is 8 now and still wants more cards for her 206 set we are building. A lot of help from the board has made this a very very dear and memorable set for the both of us.

She knows Nationals is coming and is asking what I am getting for her. Well probably a stack of cards as normal that she will throw on the floor and spend hrs looking at and sorting before putting them away in her binder.

i am now 27 now, and have been doing this with my dad since i was about 24 ... and i intend upon doing this until the day i die, because with all of the variations and backs in t206, it seems like there is always something new and interesting to accomplish!

49 Bought my first T206 in 1991 from a shop in Cooperstown, NY. It was a very nice Zimmerman. Being a lifelong Cubs fan, I decided to put together a clean T206 Cubs set (1908 was their last championship at the time... and still is). Finished the Cubs set a while back. Now occasionally working on a back collection.
