Phil:
Here is your Ashburn 1949 Lummis. But...... is it his true Rookie card?? See below. The first after the Lummis is in the SCD Vintage Standard Catalog. 1948 Philadelphia Bulletin Stand Ups. Ashburn was issued 8/1/1948. Certainly well before the 49 Lummis. The other is a ticket to Ashburn day in his hometwon of Tilden Neb. found under a floor board when a house in Tilden was being demolished a few years back!! Regards, Fred |

Fred:
Thank you for providing the Lummis scan. If you go to the HOF Rookies webpage on Old Cardboard, you will find that the 1948 Philadelphia Bulletin is the first item listed as an Ashburn rookie. The ticket that you provided was not one of the types of items that we included. |

Can bot be classified as rookies in any way:
Brock,Lou - 1964 Jay Publishing Campanella,Roy - 1950 R423 Clemente,Roberto - 1956 Pittsburgh Team Issue Dawson,Andre - 1978 Montreal Team Issue Harvey,Doug - 1990 T & M Sports Umpires. You listed a 1989 Harvey -- can not have RC's in 2 straight years. Koufax,Sandy - 1956 Brooklyn Team Issue Marichal,Juan - 1962 Jay Publishing Mathews,Ed - 1953 Spic & Span Barves Mazeroski,Bill - 1958 Kahn's Stargell,Willie - 1964 KDKA Pirates Weaver,Earl - 1970 Baltimore Team Issue Williams,Billy - 1962 Jay Publishing In each of theser cases there was a Topps Rookie Card iussued, usually a year belfore these listings. In addition, you listed a 1956 Bill Mazoerskii card sp there should not be a card two years later. It's one heck of a list though. Rich Last edited by Rich Klein; 05-26-2013 at 06:52 PM. |

You're right, not every card listed is a "Rookie Card". In order to keep things uniform, we went with a Top 5 for every Hall of Famer. Some had 5 or more Rookie Cards, most had less and then we simply listed the remainder from earliest forward. Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 05-26-2013 at 06:01 PM. |

Phil/Lyman,
If you are including team photos and studio CdVs and cabinets, then Anson's (professional) rookie card would be either the 1871 Forest Citys CdV or the 1874 Suddards & Fennemore cabinet. Here is a link to the 1874 card, as it appeared on the Heritage website: http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7028&lotNo=81174. For Cartwright, ignoring dags and ambros, there are 1860s CdVs of him. And for Chadwick, the c. 1864 Resolutes CdV predates the 1870's cabinet on your list. EDITED to add that for Anson he is also depicted on an 1872 Philadephia trade card.
