Carlton,
Its a stocky 33" bat. I have seen the maker a few times, but its not all that common. Thanks Matt |

Carlton, I've seen several Piper bats but that knob configuration is extremely rare. I can't remember seeing a Piper one before. Paul Montesano collects mushroom style bats and might have one.
Great score Matt love that mushroom.

Scott,
Here's your 1918 Newspaper. The back is incredible. Full page photo of Ruth. I see you're from Waltham. If you ever feel like coming to RI to see a few nice pre-1960 Sox/royal Rooters pieces let me know. Greg [IMG] ![]() Last edited by HiNeighbor; 05-28-2009 at 04:30 PM. |

Wonderful Piper Bat, Matt... congrats! The egg-shaped knob on yours is just magnificent.
I had one a few years ago that was very similar, but with sort of a "half mushroom" or semi-mushroom knob. I really like Piper Bats... all the examples I've seen have the ultra-dark wood with very tight grain. They are indeed tough to find... must have had a very small market share back in the day. |
