Does anyone have any research or knowledge regarding baseball teams named the Wide Awakes? I know the name was used for teams in the late 1850s and 1860s, but was it also used later? I'd like to make this 1859, but that may be wishful thinking.[/QUOTE]
You're in NY, and it does seem to be related to the Little Falls, NY area. But $1.00 is a lot of money in 1859, especially if the Supper is Extra. You requested any knowledge of a team named the Wide Awakes. The Everett, Washington semi-pro team was known as the Wide Awakes from the 1870's-1940's. Plenty of waterfalls in Snohomish County, but I can find no Little Falls (there is a Little Lake). Plenty can be found out about the Everett team in the book "Wide Awakes, Invincibles, and Smoke Stackers" (or something similar, my memory fails me at this time), |
