1) Photos seem to be part of many collectors field of interests. Even if it isn't their main focus, they still obtain some now and again.
2) Photos have become much more available to everyone, both in quantity and price, since the release of all the newspapers archives.
3) They are great display pieces.

Of the 117,000 items listed in 26 subcategories for sale at this time in the "Vintage Sports Memorabilia" category on ebay - Publications and Photos completely dominate the results garnering 77,000 listings, almost 2/3 of all items posted for sale. I should add that Baseball Autographs rule Baseball Memorabilia as 338,000 signed items are now, and most certainly always available on ebay.
