4 seasons of over 100RBI, 5 seasons of over 100Runs scored, never had more than 184 hits in a season. He wasn't anywhere close to dominating his position in his era. Very good player, yes. Great player...no.

Those numbers when taken alone don't seem all that great, until you take into account that he was a 3B with 5 gold gloves, 9 All Star games, and finished top 8 in MVP voting 4 times(top 5 twice).... Also, keep in mind that his stats were compiled primarily during a pitcher's era..
