I "see" Jeff's initial, comically well-put point, but hype is and always has been part of the game, especially in all fields of collectibles. Just check out Barrett-Jackson's classic car auctions. Each of us just has to decide for ourselves just what is the sizzle and what is the steak in any given case, with no ill will intended towards Pete in this regard at all. Most of us here are pretty good at doing that. Plus we're big boys now, and we've had extensive discussions on eye appeal versus technical grade, and we pretty much agree on the importance of the former.
May those items that you pull the trigger on fill your heart with joy for years to come. Best, guys, Larry Last edited by ls7plus; 07-03-2011 at 01:52 AM. |

Chao sure did "spice" up the board in the old days though. To be completely honest, i just recently found Net54 and began lurking here, right around the same time that Peter became a member and started posting (i believe that was back sometime around the winter of 2007 or so) and he got me coming back to Net54 every few hours, just to see what he was gonna post next, lol. ![]() |

I do realize this is an old post, but I just had to rekindle it with this gem:

i know what you mean Calvindog! As for me, I try to put forward an honest description so that the buyer and myself know the real score.
Hang in there and dont let it get you down! You are a great guy and I am proud to know you from here and i enjoy our friendship. I keep saying it, but it's true: The greatest members of our hobby are the members of our 54 group! Your Friend, Bill Hedin Quote:

Don't forget these straight out of Net 54s BST, from a seller that knew nothing about them a week earlier.

I just checked, he must have been posting them as you posted on here. He now has 1500 of them up. Wow.

I was wondering if you had any cards that are actually cool? Like do you have any with guys with massive afros? I do. Do you have any with players with a floating eyeball? I do. I just scored a Dick Williams card that has such sharp edges that you could slice a pepperoni log so thin that you could read the paper through it. Think my collection tops yours. WIN for Fripples.

I just had a very nice chat with Fripples. Fripples is a very educated adult that enjoys the hobby and especially the artwork on our gems. As a matter of fact, with a PHD in Middle Eastern studies (she'll kill me for letting that out), I told Fripples she might have some interests in common with Jim B. And of course Fripples has Lichtman to blame for enjoying the hobby. Isn't he always at fault
![]() I thought that post above was a bit odd too....but it's all in fun.

I found Fripples posts to be a bit odd, both of them. Glad to see they were tongue in cheek. Tone is always tough to pick up on the board. I just thought that Fripples took some of that bad acid that's going around.

I believe Leon confused the East with the Middle East.

I think I got my wires crossed....You and Jeff are probably correct. I better go back into my hole again. Fripples seems very cool though.....and Jim B. is one of my favorite people in the hobby.

The stuff that is learned on this forum is just amazing. I've lived my entire life up to now and had virtually no idea that the word "fripples" even existed. The fact that fripples is always plural, well.....that just boggles my mind.

LOLOLOLOLOL yes, exactly. This is what happens when you let a guy from Texas be in charge. One minor error over a few letters and we have WWIII.

Not to defend the people at Please Submit Again or Slippery Gasket Creators but I always wonder whether a card with a very faint image is as bad as it is when we see it because of the wear and tear of being exposed to light in dealer(s) inventory after being slabbed.

Almost surely no in the case of Old Judges. There is a decline curve for photo fading and most of it takes place fairly early in the photo's life (about 100 years ago). Unless the dealer's case is at an outside mall this is not an issue.

But only after publicly announcing it as their favorite card in their collection, one which they will never sell. At least for an hour.
