Anything to it or just an anomaly?
There's no schmeg or ink on the card, that's the way it was printed, but I've never seen this before. Almost looks like NET'L--------------------------------------------Instead of NAT'L The "L" is too small and it looks almost like an upside down comma after the N. |

It looks pretty typical for a small spot of damage on the plate/stone. If there's a bit of debris that scuffs the stone it removes the surface that prevents oil adhering and the section prints as a blob.
It could also be a bit of debris scratching the negative used to develop the plate. Pretty much the same result. So there should be more of them. Quite a few, maybe as many as 1 in 6 or so if it's the latter explanation. Fewer, as few as only a handful if it was damage just before they stopped using the plate. Steve B |
