You said keep your eyes out of focus, which is misleading. You want DEEP focus!
Didn't notice the thick dark eyebrows in the shadow at first. Also, the dip in the brim seals it. I agree with you, nice work... And, I was about to list it as a young Babe Ruth or Joe Jackson.
