Would you rather have the frankenwagner or the trimmed shellacked one. I'm going frankenwagner.

I don't think the name was mispelled Pittsburg. I think that was intentional!
Wasn't there a big controversy at that time concerning how the city was named??? Did the Pirates use Pittsburg or Pittsburgh at that time? Last edited by martyogelvie; 10-27-2010 at 01:32 PM. |

Cut and pasted from Wikipedia (ie no guarantee as to the veracity of what it says):
Pittsburgh was officially named with its present spelling on April 22, 1794, by an act of the Pennsylvania Department, stating, "Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that the said town of Pittsburgh shall be, and the same is hereby, erected into a borough, which shall be called the borough of Pittsburgh for ever."[27] Pittsburgh is one of the few American cities to be spelled with an h at the end of a burg suffix. This style is commonly used for many other cities and towns of Western Pennsylvania.[28] While briefly named "Pittsburg" from 1890 to 1911 following a declaration by the United States Board on Geographic Names, the Pittsburgh spelling was officially restored after a public campaign by the citizens of the city.[27] The city continued to be referred to as Pittsburg (without the H), however, until 1921, when in August the Pittsburg Press changed its name to add the letter "H" and began referring to the city and its sports teams using that longer name as well. |

I guess I don't have to worry about this dilemma unless I win the lottery, but if I actually had the money to afford that card I don't think I'd want a shellacked, trimmed one either.

When they opened the box, they found the card, with a typewritten note: "Although damaged, the value of this baseball card should increase exponentially throughout the 21st century!"
Was this not like a note in the shellacked Wagners safe? Wonder if they bought the 2 cards from the same guy ![]() |
