You might consider the possibility of buying some of the cards in "multi-card lots" either on eBay or through online auctions. Since you are starting from scratch this might be a good way of obtaining a lot of the cards relatively cheaply and in a hurry.

Total pre pop-art style set that is extremely underated due to the lack of Ruth or Gehrig. Have fun and enjoy putting this together. I spent 10 years slowly putting together the 34 Goudey set and it was a lot of fun !
