Very funny Rob D. but this was cleared-up in a prior thread. The "P" really stands for Peons. David is the star pitcher (ala Don Mossi) on the old Net54 softball team. I believe we play the guys from Full Count next weekend, should be a good game (Leon is sharpening his spikes as we speak)...

Long time
![]() The brown OM Revelle I lost in a Lipset about 10 years ago and it finally made its way to my collection about 2 years ago by trade. That run took many years to build and would not have happened if not for hobby friends sending the Revelles my way. My sickness is well known ![]() hope to see you at the National

My dad and I used to go to postcard shows together. A lady had just sold some baseball postcards to a dealer my dad knew. The dealer called my dad over because he knew I collected baseball postcards. Well after some negotiations we settled on a deal. My dad sacrificed some great postcards from his collection so I could get this card.

T206, M101-5/4, T210, Deadball Era Red Sox type set, Minor Leagues type set, N172 "One Card per Team," and 1858-1918 New England baseball. Although I have started and stopped many projects over the years, one card changed everything:
![]() The set, pose, background, and player birthplace make this my best card. Once I had it in hand, I sold off my other projects and made the decision to focus solely on Massachusetts born players from the N172 set.

Very cool card, Clint, and with that story behind it I can see
it's one of the priceless cards in your collection. Here's my best... was my holy grail and on my searchlist for 5 or 6 yrs. Still can't believe this card is absent of the standard caramel stains. I may sell off my collection one day, but they will have to fight the rigor mortis when they peel this Cobb from my hands. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks Chuck and you're exactly right. That card is never going anywhere. The CJ Cobb of yours looks damn nice especially for a 1914. Great cards everyone and a great thread.

This is by far my best prewar card. My 1910 T210 Fred Toney pictured on the Winchester Hustlers. It is my favorite because the Winchester Hustlers existed in my home town of winchester kentucky and the fact that a star pitcher from the prewar era pitched in my home town is just to cool. Not to mention I am only 27 and it took me five years to find this card.

Thanks Phil. There's no postmark but I'm guessing around the 1912 time frame. I got it with another post card of Johnson with Larry Cheney. He's wearing the same uniform as in this other postcard dated 1912 I have. The Cubs emblem Cheney has on his shirt was used in 1911-1912. Johnson's style of uniform was used in 1912-1916. It was definitely taken at Coffeyville, Kansas.

Although not the best looking card, it is my favorite. I have always wanted to have a 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson, but was never within my budget. My wife spotted this about 4 years ago in raw form and purchased it without my knowledge. The story she got from the guy was that he found it in the flooring of an old house that he was either tearing down or refurbishing. Although she was somewhat sceptical as she has heard horror stories of fake cards, she took a chance and bought it. She first sent it to SGC where they authenticated it, but they were afraid to slab it due to the possibility of the left side coming apart in their slabbing process. She then sent it to Beckett and they were able to slab it. It made for a wonderful birthday present. Wife and card are both keepers. It by far is my most prized card and plan on passing it down to my son.

I love your story about completing the 1979 set with the help of your grandparents! Aren't grandparents the best!
As far as vintage "Bests" go, that is a tough call for me, as I don't have anything truly special or unique. I think it would be a toss up between the T200 Cleveland and the T206 with the F. Scott Fitzgerald stamp on the back...

Obviously not the Best of Show, but my first T206. In his day, Germany Schaffer was quite a player. The first to think of "stealing" first, for example. From second, of course, to distract the pitcher and allow a runner on third to score.
Someday my son, with whom I've collected this and all the others, will get it. And he won't sell it either. GERMANY!.jpg |

After a week long battle of going back and forth trying to find a middle ground I was able to reach an aggreement and am so happy I got this card !! It was tough because no previous sales were there to compare to and when I hit the ' I have to have this card' mode there was no turning back and in the end everything worked out and I couldn't be happier !! Thanks Jim B !!

This question comes up every once in a while so I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing these cards, but my dad gave these to me when I was a kid, they were my first prewar cards...he found them in a scrapbook. Some day I will pass them on to my son.
