E107 type 2's: Who owns?

Hello,
I was curious if any fellow board members own any type 2's? Type 1's pop-up now and again, but type 2's you don't see all that often. Anyone care to share?

I had a Waddell Type 2 a couple of years ago on consignment, and auctioned it.

I think the same Waddell has been passed around a lot.

You're right Jeff. The Waddell was consigned to me, and then the winning bidder dropped out of the hobby and gave it back to me. So I sold it twice. Plus, didn't it come from that big Sotheby's find? That would be three sales within a couple of years.

Lajoie is the only E107 Type 2 that I own. I bought it in an REA auction a few years ago.

Odds are that these were cut from some type of packaging as all are on thicker gray stock and a bit coarser front appearance. Most are cut very tight although some are full size all are handcut.

I still have the Delehanty on the right. Oddly it has the Breisch Williams stamp on the back, the only Type 2 seen with one, further evidence that E107's might have been redeemed by Breisch-Williams.

I remember seeing this topic come up a few months back. I pasted my response from then below....

Quite a lot of Lajoie's in this thread....I have a small "head count" I've been working on for the Type 2s over the years. I'll have to double back and make sure these are included! Any other examples of any of the 8 cards people have lying around?

Always happy to chime in on an e107 thread!

I did collect Type 2s for a year or so, 3-4 years back. I ended up with six of the eight cards, however never found a Socks Seybold, or a Tenny (the latter of which has eluded me in several sets actually). A Tenny type 2 was auctioned off in a Sotheby's auction but I lost unfortunately.

I did have a few nice ones. Had a nice Lajoie, a Delehanty, and a neat Waddell which at the time, was an uncatalogued card. I had a nice Doyle which measured to the full width of a Type 1 making it sort of a unique card. Delehanty is the big money card here and one of these may run you five figures.

At the time, I also made an argument that there were two different types of handcut e107s. Don't want to rehash all that, but there were clearly differences in the small sample of cards I owed. Some had greyish overtones on the front, was thicker and was grey on the back. Like it had just been cut off a box lid. The second type, which included my Delehanty was a relatively thin card, no grey overtones and a back that was blank and white and smooth as a cueball.

From my experience, there are no more than 3-4 of each example. I only know of two Waddells, and one of those two will never hit the open market. Lajoie might be the most common card and I've owned a couple different examples. As a rule, you typically find these with very narrow borders and the majority of what few there are are in extremely haggard condition.

It's definitely an interesting subset and I'm glad to hear someone is going after it again. I would have liked to have taken the time to have finished it, however e107s are so expensive, I didn't like having $25k tied up in just a few cards when there's so many other attractive prewar sets out there. So I ended up selling mine off and I believe they were auctioned off individually not long after.
