There was an "Ernest" G Diehl who played 4 seasons in the majors from 1903 to 1909.

The signature dates to 1907, I was thinking it might be Ernest(Ernie) Diehl, but it does sort of look like Erwin.

Looks like Erwin to me too, and Ernie Diehl's given name was Ernest so I doubt he would have signed anything Erwin.
