During WWII, my father was a good enough ball player to stay State-side and play on military baseball teams. In 1944, on the day after the All Star Game, he played against Satchel in a war fund raiser in Louisville. Dizzy Dean pitched a couple innings for his team. Dad faced Satchel twice and said he could not even see the ball coming in, much less hit it! What a pitcher he must have been!
