This is Lot 566 in the latest Hunt Auction. I'm pretty sure Browning is not in this cabinet. Does anyone else have a different opinion? |

I had an exchange a while back with a few folks trying to ID all of the players (it was an odd amalgam), but Browning was never suggested by anyone (for good reason).

I spent a fair amount of time working on the ID's for this one a while back:
clockwise starting after mascot: Jim Hart center ? -?-Joe Werrick, Paul Cook-Monk Cline (under Hart)-Dave Foutz-Hub Collins-Phil Reccius-Bill Dighton White note that box score lineups included: Cline Collins Foutz Werrick White (Reddy) Mack Cook Reccius (Tony) Hellman No mention of Browing, who is not in the composite. ![]() Last edited by bmarlowe1; 10-20-2009 at 10:06 AM. |

There's some very nice 19th century in this sale. That large plate St. Louis World Beaters image is great.

I agree Barry...some great stuff in this one. There are still families out there with 19th century playing relatives with hoards of this kind of stuff. Makes one wonder what else is out there.

Shawn - I don't think Morrissey was on the tour - he is not mentioned. If you have a good reference image of him, I would like to see it.

Had one before and Browning is NOT in the picture. Not sure why since he was on the team but maybe he was drinking too much......or his mastoiditis kicked in.

Mark:
I don't have access to the emails I exchanged pereviously, but I think I settled on Tony Hellman as the guy above Joe Werrick. If I can locate the emails when I get home, I may have the ID for the guy in the upper right-hand corner, too. Kevin |

There are individual cabinets for the subjects in the composite as I had the Foutz (lower left) before on the same mount I believe.............

Kevin - My only image of Hellman is of poor quality. From that one all I can say is that the guy could be Hellman, I can't be sure from that alone. If anyone has a good one, it would be nice to see it.

Below is an 1886 article that is written about (I think) the Louisville - California TRIP... Not sure if its much help, but a great read. (Read articles from Left to Right)
Oh, and I would like to cancel me Morrissey guess. Somewhere I had in my mind that there was a connection. Sorry |

I wanted to add that I believe that the mascot in the cabinet photo is Jim Harts son... I read another article where his son was the mascot the following year. Just an interesting side note.

I'm happy to note that Hunt has resonded to my email and has corrected their description.
--- Shawn - Thanks for posting the Sporting Life article. My earlier research was based on The Sporting News box scores and articles. Last edited by bmarlowe1; 10-23-2009 at 03:00 PM. |

Well - there is no mention of Henry Francis (Farmer) Vaughn (aka Harry Vaughn) in any of the box scores or articles I found about the tour. But...
unknown guy:.......................Farmer Vaughn: ![]() ![]() I can't say for sure it's not him. Even if not, it's a good guess. Last edited by bmarlowe1; 10-23-2009 at 10:20 PM. |
