I've seen mixed amounts. Does anyone know the true population of Graded and Ungraded estimates?
thx! |

I think you're referring to the 1914 Cracker Jack Matty. I haven't bought, sold, or owned a card in many, many years (I gravitated toward vintage equipment about 20 years ago), but if I were to ever buy another card, it would be the 1914 horizontal Matty. I too would love to hear opinions about this card's population.

My guess if around 35 +/- 5. Tough to find in any condition. I was able to see the highest graded one at a national a couple years back SGC 86 and it was on a different level than any other 1914 CJ Mathewson I had ever seen.
Here's mine. ![]() |

The one you saw at the National was the only one that never saw the inside of a Cracker Jack box. It was part of a find of a set that originated in the factory. Others can probably fill in the details. It included an SGC 98 Jackson!

I would be shocked if there were only 40 Mattys. Not common, but they do come up for sale regularly.

Alot more than people think, this card was not really considered rare until a few years ago.

Why would it be any rarer than any other 1914 Cracker Jack? I know this pose is not in the 1915 set. But if someone was looking specifically for a 1914 Collins or a 1914 Wagner, etc., wouldn't it be just as scarce as the 1914 Matty?

I think Joe Jackson's 1914 card may be a little more scarce than Matty. I don't know PSA's or Becketts population report, but according to SGC, there are fewer Jackson's than Matty.

Yes. It's just that due to the pose change, people attribute it more importance.

69,444 were made!
![]() If the back of the card is correct, then there were roughly 69,000 Mathewson's printed in 1914. |
