I call UPS quite often when I miss the drop off (I am not sure I have done this with FedEx but I think so). I always ask the person that answers the phone that "if he cannot bring it back to me, where is he going to be at 20 minutes from now, I'll meet him there." I have met the trucks several times. One time I met the UPS truck behind a Ralph's store and then a couple months later I met a driver behind the same store. It seems like this was some sort of stopping point for the driver to get organized. It is only 10 minutes from my house.
