Default Lets revisit a new forum hosting s/w solution possibility

Posted By: Butch & Co.

FWIW, from the furthest thing from major players on this forum...

If our vote has any weight, we strongly support doing whatever it takes to preserve and archive all the threads and posts that have accrued here over the years...

We had a similar situation a few years ago with a Yahoo forum that was being moved to another location. One of the biggest stumbling blocks then was that message threads could not be saved en masse, as it were -- only individual posts, one at a time. Several of the major and most active participants there took it upon themselves to "divvy up" the workload and indeed copy thousands of individual posts into an archive file. It was a hugely labor-intensive copy-paste procedure, and unfortunately, it was impossible to retain those posts in the original "interactive" format, but at least no important information was lost. Perhaps a similar volunteer effort among some of the folks here might be a possibility if it's beyond the scope of the tech people at any new hosting service...

Worth noting, perhaps, is that in the present Net54 format, entire threads can be saved with just a couple of clicks of the mouse button. Not sure, though, how mutually interactive those would be nor how they would (or could) be reorganized on a new host, but again, just a suggestion perhaps (perhaps not) worth investigating...
