Interesting Article. While prices seem to be holding somewhat in the card market, other collectibles seem to be getting hammered.

Prices are more down than you'd think; just depends on the cards in question. I've been scooping up postwar cards I've always wanted to have at very attractive prices.

I don't know memorabilia extremely well but I can safely say that for the last 12 months running (and for that case 10 yrs running) I would have rather had my money in rare and scarce pre war baseball cards. I am pretty sure my best cards haven't gone down 40% in the last 6 months like the stock market has. So yes, I would rather have my money in cards as 20-20 hindsight.......and am very happy I didn't have a lot in the market but to each their own.......regards

Leon - thats an unfair comparison.
My 'best' stocks haven't gone down 40 % either.


If we compare entire markets....
cards to stocks..... I wonder which has held its value more.


I'm not making a judgment either way.

As far as where to put my money... I'd prefer cards.... because of the fun factor....
but if I was looking to make some coin, I might head to the stock market before I head to the card show.

Joe D- bottom line. I am positive my whole collection, and whatever it's value has, has done considerably better than the stock market overall (in at least the last year). It's not even close.....but we need to remember the sweet spot that I collect is what has held up better.... For instance...no doubt I have quite a few common cards but that's not where the real value is....the value is in the rare ones. If I have a $100 card go down 50% it's not a big deal when I have a higher end one go up a lot...as one did recently....and I am in 100% agreement on which is more fun.....take care

It's hard to argue with the track record of vintage baseball cards in the past few years, and while cards have been softer recently, they are not subject to the same volatility of the stock market.

Also, you have guys like Bernie Madoff screwing up people's life savings, and I can't think of anything comparable to this in the baseball card market.
