They are a very scarce premium sized (about 4 x 6) issue of baseball cards on thinner stock, from circa 1912. There are only approx. 5 different players known. They picture baseball players (stars of the day) in a Vassar Sweater. regards |

Okay, thanks Leon...not sure I've seen or heard of them before. For a while there I was wondering if Darren was asking for pics of Chicks in sweaters. |

...but those of us around Poughkeepsie, NY who hear "Vassar Sweaters" think of the college, not the rare card. |

Interesting, as Vassar was a female-only college. I doubt many guys would have worn a Vassar sweater in public, unless they wanted to needled. I can imagine it being the basis for a Leave it To Beaver episode, with June forcing Beaver to wear a Vassar sweater to school. "But mom." |

I will try to scan mine in the next few days, I think they are about 8" tall instead of 6" but I haven't looked at it in awhile. Just remember that it is worthless since it is not graded. Dan. |

I knew some of the info I quoted above but took other from the 2007 SCD big book. There is a picture of one in that book. Also, as Dan said, I think these are larger than the book says. I think they are on thin stock and might push the boundaries of what a "card" is....which is the other reason I haven't picked one up ....regards |

Thin stock is absolutely correct! And I wouldn't consider them a card but a premium. Dan |

I heard that there are only five known players, and each "card" is unique. I have the Lajoie - will post a scan tonight. They are on thin paper and look like they have been cut out of something. I thought they were closer to 4x6", maybe a touch taller, but will have to check on that. |

In addition to the subjects here, the Standard Catalog also lists Sam Crawford and Smokey Joe Wood. If anyone has scans of these I'd love to see them. |
