Vic Raschi, Roy Campanella and Roger Maris had liquor stores, as did former heavyweight champ Primo Carnera. Others had restaurants, bars or nightclubs, like Mickey Mantle, Jack Dempsey, Jim Jeffries, Jim Braddock, Sugar Ray Robinson, etc. Some went into sales and distribution, where name recognition for an ex-athlete was valuable in opening doors with bar owners. |
