Randy, that is a very good point that I hadn't considered. The forum could well become something of an advertising board if sellers made a habit of outing their own auctions. I have, however, seen reminders posted by board members regarding their own auctions without anyone calling them on it. If outing is to be discouraged then these reminders also should be.

Oddly enough, the effect of mentioning items on this board has other effects.

I don't mind when someone mentions an auction company's auction about to start. And I don't mind when someone here mentions that they're selling stuff on eBay.

The "odd" effect that comes to mind is that when some odd card or item is mentioned here, it seems that sometimes 2 or 3 materialize and show up on eBay. It is great! Talk about a card you want, if you have the bucks, and presto! There it is, newly listed on eBay.

I think that the amount of commercial 'promotion' that has been allowed by the moderators here is about right. The banners around the periphery are tastefully done, and the announcements that are allowed in the main posting area are kept brief and purely informative. I would guess that most members wouldn't want it to grow much beyond that. Having said that, I think it is useful to be able to ask questions here that seek assistance for specific buying decisions, and that may in some cases make reference to items that are currently for sale or auction.
