I've been a participant in the Non-Sport "TAKE A PENNY - LEAVE A PENNY" box. The idea is pure trading for the shear joy of collecting. |

that while a little of this give and take is tolarable - starting a thread to bait someone seems weak. Probably better ways to express it. I imagine this was precipitated by the 380 and rising Kevin post. I am in no way singling you out as the only person to get embroiled in what is more a personality issue than anything else. Jim's views and the views of the more vocal "playahs" have been expressed by not only themselves but many others with the endless CUTTING AND PASTING - rehashing old issues - whatever. The attack and defend strategy - constant back and forth allusions and implications of whatever prior acts - people suddenly coming out and posting with sides chosen regardless of the issue or thread intent - and a litany of non-responsive or self-serving dialog follows that tends to dominate many threads - moreso lately but I am mostly new here and often mearly a lurker. I suppose I am in some way contributing to the problem by responding on any thread that has little to do with cards or related issues. I am going to try and not comment in the future on issues that don't pertain to the board's criteria (explained in the rules section). |

Actually something of this manner was started a few years ago. Not sure who started it up, but a card was offered, the first one to respond received the card but then had to offer up an equal value card. I know it went trough about 20 people but not quite sure why or how it ended. A person was allowed to only do this once so it was not dominated by one person. I believe it was a thread on the board, but don't remember for sure. |

Although his login is War Hound, I do not believe that Jerry's intent here was other than the sharing of a suggestion which has resulted in an increase in the enjoyment of our hobby for him, and others. |

Gil is humble. There is a '50s "dupe box" circulating right now on the post-war side of the board, initiated and stocked by both his and Jim VB's generous selves (apologies if I left someone out.) Every seems to be having a good time with it. |

what was the reason for that jerry???......like 1880 nonsports says, not nice to try and bait, you deserve what jim gives you...wether you agree with jim or not does not give you the right to start a thread about him? sounds like you mildly picked a fight here...oh, before i forget...IMHO... |

I like the idea of a dupe box...but I would like to put a spin on it. Let's say you want to take 5 cards from the box that you recieved, you would then replace it with 6 cards. If you take 10 then you replace it with 11 and so on. |

So, what does one do to "support" this endeavor without cards to contribute? Write a letter to the editor at the New York Times? |

Actually, if you got rid of the idea of dupes, I could contribute. That doesn't seem like a necessary rule. The reason for leaving more cards than you are taking out is putting the emphasis on giving more than you are taking. If that is the spirit, then the person/persons that start the ball rolling will have a wider selection to choose from when they get the box back. |

My question is who keeps the cards in the end or do you get to a point where you take out 2 cards and put in on and than when it s to one card you reverse it, boy this sounds like lots of fun when do we start. Maybe we can start with Peter C's collection. Oh, you need cards to start it so that would be a bad idea. |

When you talk about 50 prewar cards, even if they were all commons you are probably still talking about $500 worth of cards to start the box. That's probably too much to expect from any one individual. But if two or more individuals started the box it would work out well. |

Why does it have to start with 50 cards? That's pretty unrealistic. Like we did it last time: one person posts a single prewar card as available. The person who claims it would then be responsible for keeping the ball rolling and posting another available prewar card. And so on. |
