"Skydash" Collection Gem

Does anyone know why this card is so incredibly rare? I know the overall set is very tough, but this card in particular is impossible. Even if there were only 10 each of the "common" cards in this set, how do you explain the existence of only 2 or 3 Thorpes (and 2 or 3 Jacksons)? Could there really be 8 Thorpes and Jacksons squirrelled away secretly in some of the finest collections?
