That's a pretty accurate list, although if you count Bonds, his best seasons are equal to or surpass anyone's. And I might pick Koufax in 1965, when he was 26-8 with 382 strikeouts and pitched his perfect game. But 1963 will do. |

I agree with your selections and I commend you for avoiding hitters who played in 1929 and 1930. I would, however, lobby for Lefty Grove's 1931 season to be included. He went 31-4 with a 2.06 ERA, leading the league in wins, winning percentage, complete games, shutouts and ERA. Given the era he played in, I believe his season was as good as any for a pitcher ... |

There are better options at CF. First one that comes to mind is Ken Williams in 1922. Hit .332 with 39HR 155RBI, 125R and 37SB. I also take Kauff's 1914 Season over DiMaggio's. |

Hornsby's best year was 1922 .401 BA, 42 HRs, 152 RBIs (and 17 stolen bases) |

No doubt Kauff and Williams had great years but Kauff did not play CF full time until the following year and Williams was a LF. I would take Mantle's '56, '57, and '61 seasons and probably a couple of Mays' seasons over Dimaggio's best. I'd also take '27 Gehrig over '32 Foxx but that's like comparing apples to oranges. |

Don't have the stats in front of me but that one glorious year for Smokey Joe Wood in which he dominated from the mound all year and in to the Series before injuring his arm during a delayed warm up period before his 3rd World Series game, comes to mind. |

Piazza, the year he hit over .360 with 40 HRs, has a claim for the best season for a catcher. |

That's a great list. I'd add Gibson before Koufax -- Gibson's 1968 season is tops in the modern era. And I'd add Lefty Grove before either of them (31-4 in the 1931 season). |

I dunno,Gibsons and Koufax's best years are a tossup to me. Its really hard when you compare HOF pitchers most dominent season and try and decide which was better. There's so many phenomanal seasons. |

Nice list Dylan. I think I have a couple of worthy additions, all from 1952. Although he was overshadowed by Shantz, Allie Reynolds had an astounding season and finished second in the MVP voting. He was 20-8 and led the league in K's and with a 2.06 ERA. He also completed 24 of 29 starts and recorded a save in each of his six relief appearances. In the NL Hoyt Wilhelm and Joe Black had two of the greatest relief seasons ever. Wilhelm was 15-3 and pitched enough innings to lead the league with a 2.43 ERA. Black was 15-4 and at 2.15 had an even better ERA than Wilhelm but was a few innings shy of qualifying for the title. Black very nearly won the MVP but Wilhelm beat him out for the Rookie of the Year. |

Mcginnity is in the HOF. You can replace him with '78 Guidry (25-3, 1.73) or '85 Gooden (24-4, 1.53). |

I realize that a few of these are problematic for one reason or another but (ifno one already has) they merit at least a mention: |
