Wow- that's awful. "October 1964" was a great book, and he wrote many others. |

I have all of Halberstam's baseball books....I especially enjoyed "Teammates" as the Red Sox are my favorite team. Terribly sad news. |

"Summer of '49" is one of my all time favorite baseball books, "The Fifties" is one of my top 5 books of all time. Sad. |

I read most of his writings and I loved the style with the background and side trails. I learned so much from all of that |

He's the only person that could make politics interesting. I really enjoyed the Best and the Brightest. I'm still reading Playing for Keeps, his book about Michael Jordan. Mr. Halberstam was a prolific and gifted writer. |

What a tragedy! I have an Easton Press signed copy of the Best and the Brightest. Anyone else collect signed limited editions? |

One sign of a great writer is that he can make you personally nostalgic for a time before you were born. |

I was a 10-year old kid in 1949 and an avid Yankees fan (Phil Rizzuto was my neighbor 2 blocks away). |

Like many here, I was saddened by the loss of David Halberstam. He was a tremendous journalist and a pretty fair writer. While I enjoyed 'Summer of '49', I preferred 'October 1964'. My favorite Halberstam book was 'Breaks of the Game', his account of a season with the Portland Trailblazers back in the Walton years. |
